Microsoft Great Plains Dynamics GP is Dexterity based application, its integration is enabled via such tools as GP Integration Manager, eConnect, Microsoft Dexterity, SQL Server Stored Procedures, Visual Studio .Net C# and VB development where programmers deploy ADO.Net. If you are coming from eCommerce integration direction, then for you such issues as GP batches posting (Sales Order Processing invoices) might be the priority. If so, you should consider Albaspectrum GP Posting Server. Having the goal to give you Great Plains integration technology highlights, let's go ahead: 1. Great Plains Integration Manager. Historically this application and GP modules was based on OLE technology, utilizing Great Plains as OLE server and by doing so validating Great Plains forms business logic, opening and closing GP forms behind the scenes, while integrating. This is why, by the way IM requires that you close all GP forms and screens, prior to running specific integration. All this looks pretty cool and nice, however we expect somebody to raise performance question - is it really possible to integrate ten thousand records per hour via OLE server? The answer is - of course not. IM in its initial architecture had performance restrictions. However the IM future is re-archicetruing in eConnect - when this will happen, IM performance should be resolved or at least improved 2. eConnect. If you are Visual Studio .Net developer, you should research eConnect as integration SDK. eCommerce enabling is initial eConnect goal, however this statement was issued around 2003. Now eConnect handles GP object in the majority of original GP modules: GL, SOP, POP, RM, PM, Payroll, PA 3. eCommerce GP Batches Posting. Image the scenario, when eCommerce developer is in charge to program GP Sales Invoice entry, getting Credit Card payment and submitting invoice for shipping to eCommerce warehouse people. If you think that there is sufficient evidence of customer payment (as IC Verify or PC Charge returned you Credit Card payment confirmation number, so it is probably the case), then there is no need to submit the Invoice for approval to AR department - if customer paid - Invoice should be submitted to shipping people for immediate shipment. eConnect doesn't allow GP batches posting. You should deploy Albaspectrum Posting Server. 4. SQL Stored Procedures, sometimes it is OK to simplify the process and bypass eConnect deployment with direct SQL scripts. We should warn you that Dexterity GP logic is not a simple one, and you should rescue to SQL stored procedures and views only if you feel comfortable with your GP business logic familiarity and understanding
